Recent Tunes and Weekend Update

I thought I'd share what music I've been loving lately. Give them a listen if you haven't already heard them! Anyways, sorry that I haven't been posting as regularly like I was doing over my winter break. The past two weeks have been hectic adjusting to the new semester, classes, and just going back to school in general. But I think I've finally gotten comfortable with my schedule. My classes were cancelled today and yesterday due to the extremely cold weather so I was blessed with a four day weekend! Huzzah!
I started using my Polyvore again over this long weekend. I'm so over the cold and was feeling inspired to put some outfits together for the spring time so I did. The one above is just one of the many that I put together so if you're wanting more inspiration for the spring (and I'll note that most of the outfits I made are black and white 'cause that's just what I'm into), then check out my Polyvore here. In other exciting news, I'll be going home in about a week and a half! I'm stoked on that because I've ordered a few things and I wanted them shipped to my house and not my apartment so I want to go home asap! I'll most likely do a post on them while I'm home so that's something to look out for! In the meantime, I'm going to fix myself dinner (aka soup and microwavable pizza yay) so until next time..

Dreaming in Black + White

Is it spring yet? I can't wait until this cold weather is over with. I'm tired of layering until I feel like a marshmallow. I just want to be able to put on a pair of shorts and walk out the door! Currently, I'm all about the black and white look for this coming spring season (but really, I'm all about the black and white look any day). I was feeling inspired so I thought I'd go on my Polyvore to put a few outfits together and these are two that I came up with. I made a few other looks, so if you're interested in seeing those check out my profile on Polyvore here!

Sheer Love

Pictures via Orange Milk Peel
Stephanie from "The Fashion Citizen" has posted several pictures on her Tumblr wearing these lovely, sheer floral socks. She posted these awhile ago (probably months ago) but for some reason I randomly remembered them earlier this evening. Thus commenced my search for similar socks. I love how delicate they look from the flowers and since they're sheer, they'd be perfect for spring and even summer time. I definitely need to get my hands on some 'cause I'm already imagining how cute they'd be paired with my JuJu Jelly Sandals. I did a lot of online searching and found some from Topshop and Urban Outfitters. I'll have to take a visit to those places soon so I'll have a few pairs in time for the spring!

IHOP and Fuzzy Sweaters

Today was my last full day home before going back to school. I had a lovely day with my mom. We went out for brunch and we were actually going to eat at this place called Wildberry Cafe, but the wait was forty minutes so we ended up at the International House of Pancakes, otherwise known as IHOP. Post consumption of all the delicious foods, we were filled with 'I'm-not-going-to-eat-for-the-rest-of-the-day' thoughts. But delicious nonetheless.
Demolished, but no ragrets.
After we took a few minutes to rest our bellies ~and take selfies~, we headed to the mall (of course). I wanted to stop by H&M just because I haven't been to this particular location in awhile and I wanted to see what was new or if there was anything new at all. As I expected there wasn't much, but I perused through the sale section and found an awesome maroon coat that I thought would be great for next fall (since it's pretty lightweight). It reminded me a lot of the coat that Jenn Im was wearing in this vlog that she uploaded recently. Surprisingly, a dark maroon coat is stepping out of my comfort zone because all I've been wearing or buying these days is either black, white, or gray, so I thought it would be a nice change from all the neutral colors and it'll be great to add to my slowly growing outerwear collection.
Also stepping out of my comfort zone, I tried on this blue sweater because I've been seeing these soft fuzzy sweaters floating around at different stores lately and I've been wanting to find the perfect one so I thought I'd give this one a go. I kinda wasn't feeling it 'cause the neckline was so wide and it only really looked nice with one side off the shoulder (at least in my eyes it did), so I decided against getting it. But now a part of me feels like I should've just gotten it. It would've been free too because all the sale merchandise was buy one get one free. GOSH, yet another missed opportunity. Maybe I should go back to see if it's still there  tomorrow before I leave. Lol, ~important~ life decisions indeed. (Also, excuse the shit quality of the mirror pic above. Idk if it's Blogger or 'cause it's from my phone).

Bye for now Home Cooked Food

It's been a great winter break and I'm definitely not ready to get back into school mode. Honestly, I probably forgot how to function at school to begin with. I'm also not ready to part ways with having home cooked meals and freshly baked goods. If there's anything I did a lot of over my break, it was eating and baking. I'm really going to miss all the delicious food and cooking/baking things fresh. I have today and tomorrow left of break so I'm going to have to savor it. But another two and a half months and I'll be home again in no time for spring break! Thank god!

The Fisherman's Pullover

Something I've wanted for a really long time now is the Fisherman's Pullover from American Apparel. I worked at American Apparel over the summer and even though it was well you know, hot out and stuff, I still went googly eyed over them with one of my co-workers. I went on a massive spree before I went back to school and before my employee discount went away, but sadly I didn't pick one up. I think it was mostly because we didn't have a lot of the other colors in stock then, but when I stopped by last November, it was like Fisherman Pullovers galore. I swear a light from heaven came down and angels played sweet music on a harp (that's an exaggeration, obviously). Now that my break is almost over, I have no idea why I never stopped by again to get one. I had so much time too, but I guess it slipped my mind. I don't think I'll have time to stop by anymore, so I'm really mad because my co-worker was going to let me use her employee discount. I actually considered just ordering one online but I'm still a bit skeptical of that because 1.) I want to try it on and 2.) I'd have to pay full price plus shipping and that's just something I'm not committed to doing at the moment. I guess I'll just have to see how things pan out and if I'm that desperate for one, go ahead and order it.

Missed Opportunity

Back in September, Phillip Lim launched his collaboration with Target. I didn't really care much for it then. Or at least I thought I didn't care about it. I looked at the pieces he put out and overall I thought it was a pretty decent collection. But now I'm regretting not getting a hold of the mini black satchel (pictured above) that is reminiscent of his famous Pashli Mini. I mean I'd love to have the real designer bag, but the reality is, I'm just a broke college student and $600+ for a tiny bag is not reasonable at all. So I'm really disappointed that I didn't think to check it out three months ago. It would've come in handy for me too 'cause I'm still searching for the perfect black cross-body bag that isn't too big. I could probably find it online somewhere on Ebay or Amazon, but everyone just marks the price up for it (which is ridiculous). If anyone happens to know where I can get it for the original price that it was at Target, then let me know please.

Anyways, since I can't get a hold of the Phillip Lim for Target mini satchel OR a Pashli Mini, I was randomly looking at bags on the Coach website and I came across this one pictured above. It's quite wider than the Phillip Lim one, but it's still pretty small and has the same concept with the side flap thingys (Is there a proper name for that design detail?  'Cause Idk what to call them. Let me know in case I need to reference it in the future). I'd have to see it in person though to decide if it was something worth getting, but for now I'm going pretend that it is and add it to my wish list.

Bath Bombs to Sooth My Soul

I bought more bath bombs recently. What's new? If you're new to this blog, I've been on a Lush craze since I came home for winter break. Check out some of my other Lush posts under the "Lush" label to the left. It's kind of ridiculous how addicting these things are. I just can't stop myself. At least I'll be going back to school soon so I won't be able to spend my money on anymore Lush products for awhile! (There's still the option of ordering online, but I'd rather smell everything first).
Moving right along, the new ones I picked out were Honey Bee and Lord of Misrule. I didn't even want to buy anything for myself because I only went inside to buy my sister a birthday present, but one of the Lush employees started bombarding me with all of her helpful opinions and such that I couldn't resist. Honey Bee smells divine and has a really sweet toffee scent, which is what drew me into buying it. After I picked out Honey Bee I thought I was done shopping for myself, but the girl who was helping me told me about Lord of Misrule and how it turns red so then I was immediately sold on that. I think at this point, I should just make it a goal to try all of the bath bombs. Or at least the ones that smell nice to me.

New Year, Semi-New Me

I've been growing my hair out for the past year and a half now. I keep telling myself that I need to have really long hair that almost reaches my butt at least once in my life. So that is what I'm in the process of doing. With that being said, it's also been a year and a half (or maybe just a year) since I've had it cut. Yup. Not even a little trim, so I had a lot of split ends. I sorta dismissed it at first and didn't really care about it, and in the back of my head I knew I should've trimmed it just a bit, but I didn't. It was only until two days ago when my mom pointed out how noticeable my split ends were that I was like "Okay yeah I should probably do something about it". I was actually having a hard time trying to trim it myself, mostly because I didn't want to cut it unevenly, so my mom stepped in and did it for me. She did a great job, so thank god I didn't have to go to the salon and pay someone to cut an inch and a half off my hair! (Holla 'cause I got a free haircut from my mama). For reference of what my hair looked like before, visit my style blog Moon Child. I know it isn't that much of a difference, but I instantly felt like a new person! I was due for a bit of change, especially since my dreams of having blueish-green dip dyed ends has yet to happen. So in the meantime, this will have to do! Hopefully I get to dying it soon though!

Recently Added

Whenever I add any new music to my iPod, that's what I listen to for the next couple of days (or weeks) on repeat. These are the songs that I've recently added, and I'll note that I found to love these songs thanks to Shazam. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a music identifying app for your phone so if you're ever at the store or listening to the radio and hear a song you like (that you don't know), you can whip out Shazam! I pay pretty close attention to whatever music is playing in the background whenever I go out somewhere so it comes in handy when I hear a song I like that I don't know!
Anyways, back to the songs; there's definitely a random mix of genres, and I'm surprised at how much I love "Another Round" by Fat Joe and Chris Brown because hip hop isn't really my cup of tea, nor am I the biggest fan of Fat Joe or Chris Brown. BUT, that song is the exception. Just. All of Chris Brown's parts. Like what. And I know it's a really raunchy song, but damn. Besides that, "Temple" by Kings of Leon is one of my other favorites at the moment. It's made me want to check out the rest of the album and some of their others as well, so give it a listen! I've been listening to it on repeat this whole day (along with "Another Round"). And not to dismiss the other two songs I've added! But it's just that those two definitely do something to me.

Home Furnishings

I can't wait to have my own place one day.

The Perfect Winter Coat

I've been searching for a coat similar to the ones above for the longest time now! I think great outerwear is a must during the winter time. I want to stay warm, but I still want to look stylish! I haven't found a coat yet because it's pretty hard for me to find a coat I like that actually fits well and is still comfortable. I have no idea why it's so difficult for me. I always get so nit picky about certain details of whatever coat I try on. It's like, it looks nice on the hanger and then I try it on and it's a whole new story. I'm probably making it more challenging than it is, and a part of me just wants to give up 'cause it'll be spring in no time. But I'm going to keep searching while I'm still home for the remainder of my break. Hopefully I find one! Keep your fingers crossed!

Bathing in a Pink Dream

With  all the Lush products I've acquired recently, I spent my New Year's Eve the other day relaxing and pampering myself to a nice bath. Seriously guys, this Lush obsession has escalated so quickly. Just the other day I bought more bath bombs... I should really try some of their longer use products though (i.e. lotions, body scrubs, etc) 'cause as much as I love the bath bombs and bubble bars, I get so sad once they're gone. Nonetheless, I still enjoy the baths as long as I possibly can!
For my bath in the pictures above, I used the Sakura Bath Bomb and the Comforter Bubble Bar that I got from the Hello Gorgeous gift set I received for Christmas. Both smell incredible and once you step in the bath, you can feel how moisturizing it is on your skin. I was sad to see this magical pink water go down the drain (which got its color from the Comforter Bubble Bar btw), but my skin smelled and felt so good afterwards and I was left feeling refreshed and relaxed. There's no stopping me with this Lush fascination and I'll probably keep telling my friends/family to just get me Lush products for birthdays/Christmas.

Sara, I Can't Go For That Maneater

I am eternally grateful for the "80's Pop Radio" station on Pandora. Otherwise, I would've never come to the realization of how much I enjoy Hall & Oates. I was familiar with their songs "You Make My Dreams" and "Private Eyes" but I never really made it a point to listen to their other songs, which is a shame that I'm only hearing them now. Currently "I Can't Go For That", "Maneater", and "Sara Smile" are my favorites. I'll need to listen to all of their albums 'cause I'll probably really like them as well. Also, can I just add how suave they are in these videos? And I don't mean that sarcastically.

Don't be Picky! (And Happy New Year!)

Just last year (or maybe a year and a half ago?) was the first time I actually tried guacamole. I know right? You're probably shaking your head right now. The only reason I never ate it previously was because I thought it looked gross, but now it's become one of my all time favorite dips. I may be looking too much into it, but it made me realize how much I overlook trying new foods because of the way they look. Believe it or not, there was also a time when I hated cherries because they looked 'weird' and I've never even tasted them! Until I finally tried them and now they're one of my favorite fruits. It's like, when you try new foods for the first time and end up liking them, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities (as corny as that sounds).
With this new year ahead of us, there will be plenty of opportunities to try something new! I think it's important to always be trying new things, and not just with food, but just in general everyday life. You'll never know what the outcome is unless you try, so don't be picky, hesitant, scared, or discouraged whatever your circumstance is and go for it! Make 2014 the year that you try new things, whether it's something low key like the way you dress or a new hair style, or something more exhilarating like sky diving or bungee jumping! It's all up to you, so don't waste any time and wait for another year! I think for me personally, I'm going to make 2014 the year I try new things that are out of my comfort zone and strive for different and new adventures. Anyways, I wish you all a very splendid New Year and hope that you'll make great memories for the next 365 days to come!
